A campaign of terror was waged against the ndebele people in Matabeleland from January 1983 and till to this day the so called Gukurahundi which means " the early rain which washes away the chaff before the springs rains" would remain the darkest period for Zimbabwe. Gukurahundi was a series of massacres of Ndebele people carried out by the Zimbabwe National army which was controlled by ZANU PF. One would think why would then President Robert Mugabe carry out such a cruel act to his fellow people. This all started because ZANU PF was going against ZAPU and at that time ZANU PF wanted to gain support in Matabelend and the only way they could do this was install fear in people by carrying out terrible acts.
At the time of the Gukurahundi, the current President Emmerson Mnangagwa was the minister for state security and oversaw the central intelligence Organisation. He is widely believed to have played a central role in the massacres. " The first Brigade was then headed by Constantine Chiwenga who is now the vice President of Zimbabwe. " The CIO which was led by Emmerson Mnangagwa provided lists of ZAPU which was the opposition party private operatives to the Fifth Brigade who deployed troops to villagers, whilst the First Brigade provided with the logistical support."
How can we let ZANU PF run the country, let alone let Emmerson Mnanagwa lead Zimbabwe. The President and the vice President ( Emmerson Mnanagwa and Constantino Chiwenga) have blood on their hands. The ones who are still around to remember Gukurahundi their trauma still remains with them.
